At a lovely dinner tonight, I ordered traditional Turkish kebabs and was surprised to see that they weren't skewered when they arrived at the table. Apparently, "shish" means "skewer," so regular kebabs are more like gyros! Who knew?Our restaurant had a pretty spectacular view of the Bosphorus, clearly overlooking the water to the Asia side of the city (More than five people told me that Istanbul is the only city in the world that spans two continents today.). I think the highlight was the ever-changing colors of the bridge, which made me think fondly of San Francisco.
