I was inspired to try a recipe that called for paper-thin slices of potatoes to be wrapped around halibut filets, which created crispy pockets of fishy deliciousness when fried. Therefore, I was forced to invest in a mandoline slicer, a contraption that appears very dangerous with its sharp blades and pokey food grip.
But the device worked pretty well and my potato slices were translucent, as dictated by the recipe. Sadly, the potato didn't stick properly to the fillets, so the meal wasn't nearly as pretty as advertised.
Fortunately, I don't think anyone cared in the end, but that may have been thanks to the bottles of wine we also polished off!
