Charlotte York and I are complete idiots when it comes to southern Africa. After dinner at a nice Vietnamese restaurant (where the hostess clearly thought I was trying to wedge my way in to break up Charlotte York and her boyfriend), we spent some time conducting research on African safaris. We hope to visit the southern part of the continent in early 2009, but we realized how little we know about the region and the countries we'd like to visit.
We visited safari tour websites, referenced a few travel books and referenced Wikipedia. Finally, we gave up and e-mailed friends from the area for their advice. If our actual trip is as uncoordinated as our research effort, this is going to be quite the adventure.
